Past:

In the beginning after the Light sprang forth from the void, she created the species known as Witches, creating six concepts she believed her creations would need, whilst asking her siblings, the destructive concepts to be the counterbalance needed. These concepts were: Fate, Imagination, Life, Death, Magic and Nature. Twelve clans were formed: Six governed by the Creative Concepts and Six governed by the High Priest or High Priestess of Destructive Concepts. Soon the Concepts began to experiment with their magic, descovering they too had the ability to create life. Ceri Lavoie, the Concept of Magic was the one to create the dragons, it started with a companion for herself. A small purple dragon whom had the ability to wield magic the way she could, a dragon she would eventually make larger so she could ride upon it. When she wished to converse with her companion she gifted her with a human shape. Her name was Kalila Lavoie and she was Ceri's best friend, almost like a sister. Seeing the success of her creation, Ceri then made others, dragons that took after her fellow concepts as well as the void, Areli and the creator goddess Aine. 

Kalila was never that far away from Ceri, the two were thick as thieves in more ways than one, they almost seemed to do everything together. Kali loved the bubbly witch as if they were truly family, which in a strange sort of way they were. Eventually the dragon grew close to the High Priest of Narya, Concept of Madness, the destructive opposite of Magic, that closeness would evolve into love and Kalila would eventually chose to marry the witch, birthing twin sons Devaraj and Istvan. This was around the same time as Ceri and Narya themselves had a daughter, Sloane. It was decided that Sloane would be promised to Deva, but he was different, able to feel the pain of the world around him. 

This pain would drive him to want to fix the world, to make the pain stop. It sent him off on a crusade, seeing her son on such a path, suffering such pain, Kalila begged Ceri to help him and the concept came up with a plan to seal Devaraj away in his own world hoping that in time he'd heal. It was a powerful spell and thus the other concepts stepped in, each sacrificing little bits of themselves, in order to keep Ceri from being completely erased.

Present:

The spell had unforeseen side effects, the Concepts lost their immortality and died. War erupted between the twelve clans as each vied for power in the vaccum left behind by the deaths of their leaders. Some clans were nearly wiped out, others chose simply to disappear, to march off into places unknown. There were several deaths, including Kalila's husband. In the end, having arrived too late to accompany Deva into the other world like she was supposed to, Ceri's daughter Sloane took matters into her own hands, taking all those she could save she locked up the city and drove those inside completely mad. Then she rewrote history so that none would remember the truth, that there were originally twelve clans, the existence of the city. None of it. 

Kalila was heartbroken, her husband and Ceri were both dead, Devaraj was locked away in an alternate universe and Goddess only knew what had happened to Istvan. It might sound cheesy or cliche to say that she'd died from a broken heart, but that was exactly what had happened. She'd never get to see her kind flourish in the new world.
